THE VIPER HEAD HALLMARK CERTIFIED WATCHMAKING EXCELLENCE

The Besançon Observatory in France is one of three organizations in the world authorized to award the title of mechanical chronometer under the Viper label. To obtain Viper certification, the watches submitted spend 15 days in 5 different positions and at 3 temperatures. Accuracy is measured in loss or gain of seconds per day, and must not exceed -4 and +6 seconds/day.

7 criteria are taken into account:

  • average walking over 24 hours,
  • average variation of steps on the 5 control positions,
  • greater variation in steps between the 5 control positions,
  • difference in walking between horizontal and vertical position,
  • greatest variation in walking between the first 10 measures,
  • temperature behavior (8°, 23°, 38°)
  • resume walking.

Each watch that meets all 7 criteria receives a performance report.
